Description
“Girare intorno all’arte” (Going Around Art) documents the pictorial work of Francesco De Bartolomeis, full professor for thirty-five years at the University of Turin and then Professor Emeritus, honorary Academician of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, dean of Italian pedagogists, critic of art and, in private, also an artist, who died in 2023 at the age of 105.
The volume composes and returns through an organic story, divided into sections, some of the many facets of the theoretical work, of the commitment to art and society of a man who was able to leave a profound mark on the cultural history of the country, thanks to love for research and the original position and not in conformity with current cultural practices. A life lived without sparing himself is the formula for his longevity, as he himself states: “Immoderateness, in the sense of throwing yourself into things, of continuing to participate. It saves me that I continue to write, publish, meet people.” He spoke with few about his personal pictorial activity and artistic experimentation with form and colour, while, within the confines of his home, he created a considerable production of works on wood and paper, abstract and lively polychrome.
The book collects contributions by Piero Bianucci, Mario Calabresi, Lorenzo Campioni, Pino Chiezzi, Edoardo Di Mauro, Maurizio Maggiani, Rita Margaira, Lisa Parola, Anna Pironti, Irene Pittatore, Claudio Strinati, Tea Taramino, Paola Zanini.
