Description
Paratissima, on the basis of the great success achieved in recent years, presents the 9th edition of N.I.C.E.: New Independent Curatorial Experience, a course for curators that has proven over time to be both a training opportunity and a place for practical experience. Paratissima, an event born outside of pre-packaged and institutional schemes, is an example of how it is possible to operate by moving in an independent channel.
N.I.C.E. was born with the aim of offering young aspiring curators the tools to be able to build an autonomous professionalism, capable of operating also through alternative channels. The course dealt with all aspects of the complex profession of the curator, involving both external teachers and the young professionals of the Paratissima staff as trainers. These have passionately shared the know-how acquired over years of experience.
Starting from the conception and construction of the curatorial project, topics of fundamental importance were addressed such as fundraising, communication and set-up. Since the beginning of the course, at the same time as the frontal lessons, the 13 students have been engaged in a phase of laboratory experience.
The students were involved in the organization of six different group exhibitions and conducted specific research in order to select and invite the artists to be included in their project. Consistent with the mission of the event, which aims to carry out talent scouting actions towards emerging artists, N.I.C.E. intends to promote young curators by offering them the opportunity to demonstrate their talent, making them face-to-face with curating an exhibition right from its conception. This is where the six exhibitions that deal with transversal themes, closely related to the contemporary, are born.
We thank those who participated in the course for their commitment and professionalism: Massimiliano Bastardo, Giorgia Bianco, Antonello Caravelli, Gaia Ferrini, Irene Fontana, Ksenia Yarosh, Lavinia Paolini, Francesca Pietropaolo, Maria Sveva Scaglione, Serena Scaramucci, Simone Sensi, Lucia Sonza, Federica Tomatis.
