FARIAN SABAHI

Farian Sabahi is an Iranian and an Islamologist. Graduated in Business Economics from Bocconi University in Milan and in Oriental History in Bologna, she obtained her Ph.D. in History of Iran at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London with a thesis on the Army of Knowledge during the reign of Muhammad Reza Pahlavi (1963-79). He subsequently carried out field research in Iran on oil buy-back contracts (for postdoctoral studies at the Faculty of Economics, University of Bologna) and on free trade zones in the Persian Gulf (for the research grant at the Institute of Economic History, Bocconi University).
It deals with the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia with a multidisciplinary methodology that takes into account history, economics, religious and cultural aspects, with a focus on minorities and gender issues. He has held courses in Italian and foreign universities. In the academic year 2021-2022 he taught “International Relations of the Middle East” (64 hours) at the University of Insurbria, Varese and the “States Economy and Global Markets” course (64 hours) on Iran, Afghanistan, Israel , Yemen and Uzbekistan in the Como office. He teaches “History and Politics of Contemporary Iran” at John Cabot University in Rome (45 hours) during the summer of 2022 and in the fall semester of 2022-2022.
She is the author of numerous scientific articles and essays published by Italian and international publishers. His latest books are History of Yemen for the C.A. Nallino di Roma (2021) and History of Iran 1890-2020 for Il Saggiatore (2020). She is the author of the text for the theater Noi donne di Teheran, a story – in the first person female – on the origins of the Iranian capital and its contradictions, on the rights of religious minorities and women. Women protagonists in various fields, including sports, even if too often they have been a piece in the regime’s propaganda. A reading animated by the verses of the great Persian poets and a good dose of irony, to smile on complex themes and break down the usual stereotypes.
She is a professional journalist registered with the Order of Piedmont and collaborates with newspapers (Corriere della Sera, il manifesto, La Stampa), Italian (Radio Popolare, Radio Rai) and foreign (BBC Persian) television and radio programs.
As a director he made the short films Children of Tehran (2018) about Polish refugees in Iran during the Second World War, Out of place (Skytg24, 2009) and What do we do with Tehran? (Rainews24, 2008); in all three videos, the protagonists are Israelis of Iranian origin or with some ties to Iran, thus intertwining Iranian events with those of the Jewish state. She was the protagonist of the documentary Minareto mille points on the mosque under construction in Colle Val D’Elsa (directed by Pietro Raschillà, with Edoardo Camurri).
He deals with business development for companies in the Middle East (Iran) and Central Asia (Uzbekistan).
