BANFO MAURA

MAURA BANFO

Maura Banfo lives and works in Turin, where, in the Nineties, she began a research made mainly of photographic and video languages, interspersed with experiments ranging from installation to sculpture and drawing.
Always passionate about the power of matter and despite her long career as assistant to a great sculptor, Luigi Mainolfi, Maura has found her best medium in photography, transporting her three-dimensional vision within the photographic space and in the typology of printing. Maura Banfo’s path is characterized by an internal coherence that is rarely found in the work of the Italian artists of her generation.
The strength of his work lies in keeping his creative imprint and his poetics well recognizable, but in a continuous discovery of new facets and points of view. His are evocative images, known for their ability to tell short stories in which objects are silent witnesses of what is or has been. What a chimera usually recognizes becomes an exciting dive into the mystery of form.
A work of collecting emotions and suggestions in the form of long writings, shots and drawings, then elaborated and translated into works with very direct poetics, in which the public can identify with and find a private meaning.
Exhibitions: His work is present in many private and public collections (the Gam Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin, the Racconigi Castle, Unicredit Private Banking, the Cinisello Balsamo Museum of Photography, the Garuzzo Institute for the Visual Arts, Palazzo Falletti di Barolo Turin, the Castello di Rivara Foundation, Novella Guerra, Made in Filandia, to name a few.
He has participated in various exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. Among the various we remember in 2012 the Shanghai International Television Festival, 2010 in New York for the Polaroid AIPAD project. In March 2014 she was the only Italian artist in residence at the Fondation pour l’art la Napoule (Mandelieu-Cannes, France). In 2017 she was a guest of the Made in Filandia residence, the Filanda di Pieve a Presciano, (Ar).
