Nietzsche Ditirambo Folie a Torino

“Nitzsky. Nietzsche Ditirambo Folie a Torino” (Nitzsky. Nietzsche Dithyramb Folie in Torino) is a play that focuses on the madness of F. Nietzsche (1844–1900), which manifested itself and persisted until his death on January 3, 1889, when the German philosopher, who was staying in Piazza Carlo Alberto, surrendered to it in a fraternal embrace to a fallen horse, whipped by a merciless coachman in Piazza Carignano. This thematic core underpins the delirium of the simultaneously obsessed and unhinged mind of the thinker who, in Turin, had written, during 1888, “The Case of Wagner,” “Twilight of the Idols,” “The Antichrist,” “Ecce Homo,” and “Nietzsche Contra Wagner,” as well as a significant number of letters from his extensive correspondence. This text is, for its author, an attempt at a landing (or a shipwreck, no one knows how gently endured) after setting sail (it was 1987) from Weichelt’s studio in search of the sources for “Zarathustra.” This, and the subsequent conscious landings made during this not-so-brief voyage, are noted in the bibliographical notes and final acknowledgements.

LE CADUTE SUBLIMI DEL TEATRO

The book explores the archaic origins of theater and the metaphor of Icarus’s flight as a key to interpreting the theatrical creative process. The author analyzes the ritual dances of the satyrs and maenads in ancient Greek theater, seen as primordial forms of expression linked to nature and fertility. Central to the work is the figure of Dionysus, symbol of chaos and vitality. The myth of Icarus becomes a metaphor for the artistic striving to overcome limits and the “sublime fall”: failure is not the end, but rather the opportunity for the birth of new theatrical forms. Mastropasqua thus reflects on modern theater, from the symbolism of Gordon Craig and Antonin Artaud to the poor theater of Carmelo Bene, where collapse itself becomes spectacle. The essay combines historical analysis, philosophical reflections, and iconographic reflections, ranging from Lucanian funeral rites to the folk traditions of Southern Italy, interpreted as traces of a pre-rational and ritual theater. The volume concludes with an original theatrical script and two appendices on radio and ancient myths. In short, Mastropasqua proposes a vision of theatre as a space of continuous rebirth, where the fall is the beginning of a new flight.

“Perhaps you were asked why you wanted to go into theater, and you couldn’t give a reasonable answer, because no reasonable answer can explain what you wanted to do: you wanted to fly. Perhaps you would have done better to say, “I want to fly,” rather than utter those frightening words: “I want to go into theater… artists are made of the same stuff as aviators: they fly.” (Edward Gordon Graig)

Metropolitan Art

The volume documents the contemporary art exhibition “Slittamento progressivo del linguaggio” (Progressive shifting of language) by Gabriele Boccacini, which is an integral part of the Stalker Teatro project “Metropolitan Art”, a bridge between the performing arts and contemporary art, an exciting journey between works of art and live entertainment, where citizens are the protagonists of a collective adventure. It is an innovative project of education, training, research and artistic production with laboratory and performance activities, visits to museums and the setting up of performance/exhibition spaces. Contemporary art, on a national and international level, is one of the cultural aspects that most characterizes our territory: from the important artistic movements of the 60s, to the first experiences of social theatre, with theatrical animation in the 70s, passing for the experimentation of different disciplines in the following decades. In this artistic and social context, the “Metropolitan Art” project was born in the Turin hinterland; a unique initiative of its kind, divided into different activities: guided visits to contemporary, modern and ancient art museums; workshops to raise awareness of the performing arts; production of multidisciplinary events together with local citizens; training experiences on different artistic disciplines; production of exhibitions and installations/performances; advocacy and networking activities with prestigious cultural centers and events in Italy and abroad.

Metropolitan Art 8

“Imminente Permanente” (Imminent Permanent) is a contemporary art exhibition that is part of the eighth edition of the Metropolitan Art project curated by Stalker Teatro, conceived by Gabriele Boccacini, artist and theorist of this group that connects the performing arts to contemporary art through a journey between works of art and live performances. The initiative was born in the Turin hinterland, not only a place but also a dynamic melting pot of life and experience, a litmus test of a society in rapid transformation, of a territory which in previous decades was strongly characterized by the presence of Fiat and from the vast satellite activities generated by the automotive industry. The working-class and industrial context, combined with the aristocratic heritage that the city inherited from previous centuries, gave an original physiognomy to its social structure. An urban condition which for over a century has been influenced by events, shaping the historical culture of Turin and opening the stage of communication to the influences of cultures imported from different migrations, which in this place have met, merged, reworked, giving rise to a melting pot which in turn has given birth to new behaviours, cultures, urban and suburban languages of absolute interest, of investigation, not only for a study of the local reality but also of the international one. Education, training, research and artistic production constitute the
fundamental elements of this event, divided into workshops, shows, multidisciplinary events, guided visits to exhibition spaces and museums with the collaboration of relevant national and international cultural centres. Contemporary art takes on a priority role in the new “global local” condition, recognizing its roots in the artistic movements and experiences of the 1960s and in subsequent interdisciplinary research.

E ALTRE MALINCONIE TEATRALI

“La strana pietà del signor Bertolt Brecht e altre malinconie teatrali” is a book that aims to look at the theater in a particular perspective: ignoring the chronological succession, it takes into consideration those moments in which the theater has shown life in its essence ephemeral and senseless, with that ironic and thoughtful melancholy that had characterized Ettore Petrolini’s creations in Variety. The attitude, shared by Brecht, intense presence in Karl Valentin’s cabaret, originates in Sophocles’ severe and painful gaze. This is why the essay on Brecht’s Pietà, on the harsh suffering of Mother Courage‘s mute scream opens the way.

ALTER testifies to the constant interaction between visual and performing arts that defines the productions of Stalker Teatro, characterized by an authorial competence in the creative path between artistic object and performance. A sort of homecoming for the company, whose original nucleus was formed in the 1970s at the Accademia Albertina.
ALTER presents 11 installations created by Gabriele Boccacini, artist and director of Stalker Teatro, and is part of the METROPOLITAN ART project, founded on the collaboration with the Education Department of the Castello di Rivoli – Museum of Contemporary Art and some of the major museums of the Metropolitan City : GAM Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, La Venaria Reale, PAV Living Art Park Experimental Center of Contemporary Art and Palazzo Madama Museum of Ancient Art. The installations are made with materials that can not only be observed but used and sometimes modified by visitors.
“In its various editions” Gabriele Boccacini writes in the preface “Metropolitan Art has allowed hundreds of people to actively approach art, often for the first time: on the one hand there is the possibility of receiving artistic proposals and on the other of reacting with their own creative energy. Visits to museums, workshops, shared creativity workshops, collective productions of multidisciplinary performances, set-up of exhibitions and finally tourist / cultural itineraries in the territory have made it possible to communicate the experiences to still others, giving the opportunity to join a concrete adventure in the field of artistic imagery “.
Among the installations present in the exhibition, some are connected to exhibitions of the Museums that participated in the Metropolitan Art project, visited by the performers of Stalker Teatro with the groups involved in the workshops. Others, in an anthological perspective, concern past experiences, others are absolute novelties.
“The contamination between disciplines, the expansion of the contexts of production and cultural enjoyment and the ability to make social groups that are usually excluded from them characterize participatory practices today”, comment the curators of ALTER Nicoletta Daldanise and Irene Pittatore. “The paths that have led them from the state of the avant-garde to the full entry into the contemporary art scene tell a long history of experimentation. ALTER keeps track of one of these paths, traveled together by an artist and his community.”

DIONISO, SHAKESPEARE, STANISLAVSKIJ, LIVING THEATRE, CARMELO BENE

“Teatro Provincia dell’uomo” is inspired, in its title and method, by the book by Elias Canetti, “The province of man”. The volume is made up of two parts. The first takes into consideration some fundamental moments in the history of the theater, such as the Greek theater and the Elizabethan theater, and some innovative theories, from Craig to Stanislavkij, in which the actor’s research is aimed at giving a symbolic or realistic image. , of human nature, in its truth and in its fragility. A fragment, taken from the Living Theater’s Antigone, illuminates the discourse. The second part is dedicated to the reconstruction of Carmelo Bene’s text and video-work, Hommelette for Hamlet, in which echoes of Shakespeare’s and Laforgue’s Hamlet are reflected, based on the vision of Lacanian Man. The reconstruction is accompanied by a detailed commentary on all the situations, in which the protagonist, a strange cemetery Hamlet surrounded by Bernini statues that come to life and participate in the representation, is involved.

The Commedia dell’Arte was a wandering theater, a being in the world in despair, with no paradises to wait, it was a collective thinking that came from the earth and imagined life as nothing more than a patch of misery and misfortune.
A reconstruction of the scenarios of this mysterious phenomenon, which created forms of art out of misery, is proposed, shadowed in the engravings of the Fossard Collection and in the frescoes of Trausnitz’s Narrentreppe, both from the end of the 16th century.
The memory of the art of comedians, which the documents give us, is due to the passion for the theater of Henry III of France and William of Bavaria. If the first was satisfied with an album of ‘photographs’, the second claimed to enclose, for eternity, the beloved actors in the stones of his Castle, anticipating Morel’s invention.

Cosa può significare drammaturgia della danza oggi?

The RE: SEARCH DANCE DRAMATURGY publication takes into consideration the changes in the ecosystem of the performing arts in which functions, artistic practices and working conditions are redefined; dramaturgy is seen as an expanding arena for new strategies and challenges. Looking at “minor dramaturgy” as the structure of a performative work and “major dramaturgy” as the relationship between the work and the socio-cultural context to which it belongs, a new ground for reflection opens up: on the one hand development of artistic practices, on the other the system of cultural policies. In what ways do these different scales, in terms of artistic trends and institutional contexts, interact with each other? The text, edited by Carlotta Scioldo, includes the interventions presented at the RE: SEARCH DANCE DRAMATURGY conference held at the Lavanderia a Vapore in December 2016. The talks were given by Guy Cools, dramaturg of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Kahn, Bart Van Den Eynde, dramaturg of Meg Stuart and Ivo Van Hove, Alessandro Pontremoli, professor of History of Dance at the University of Turin, Stefano Tomassini, IUAV lecturer, collaborator of the Venice Biennale and consultant at the LAC in Lugano, Carlo Salone, lecturer in Territorial Development at DIST, University of Turin.
