A tribute to Beppe Fenoglio

The reason for this tribute to Beppe Fenoglio lies in the impression that reading his writings helps us live better.
The motivation is a persistent love that I try to address.
I made 100 drawings and selected 100 short excerpts from Beppe Fenoglio’s texts taken from the complete edition edited by Dante Isella, Einaudi-Gallimard in the Biblioteca della Pléiade (1992).
In dialogue with each fragment of text, but without any didactic intention, I propose a pencil drawing on paper: variations, subtractions, and digressions based on photographs I took in the Langhe at San Benedetto Belbo and archival images of Beppe Fenoglio. I search in his face, body, and places for evocative signs of his extraordinary writing.
After an initial lifelike representation, I move away with simplifications, deformations, plays on lines, shapes, and colors, attempting to capture aspects specific to that gaze and evocative of his brilliant writing ability.
For the drawings, I used the simplest supports and tools: paper, pencil, and in some cases acrylic paints.
I worked until I ran out of energy to continue.
The destination of this work didn’t affect my motivation to continue; even the possible destination of the fireplace didn’t deter me from this attempt to pay homage to Beppe Fenoglio. (From the introduction by Pino Chiezzi)

Limited edition: 200 numbered copies, signed, with a unique artwork

We have no danger of invasion: no neighboring people would want to annex a parliamentary kingdom with human greenhouses and buttons for coins, which elects Usurers by lottery and does not have the sea.

Inspired by Hans Holbein the Younger’s Alphabet of Death (1524) – 24 initial letters that narrate the dance of death in hierarchical order, from the pope to the child – this volume reinterprets each letter in a visual and poetic composition.
Fannidada and Luca Ragagnin create an epistolary dialogue made of surreal verses and satirical images, playing with full and empty spaces in a fusion of art history and contemporary memento mori.

“Leafing through a copy of the Rizzoli Larousse Great Universal Encyclopedia, we discovered the existence of the Alphabet of Death, a series of 24 initial letters created in 1524 by the German artist Hans Holbein the Younger and engraved on wood by Hans Lutzelburger.
Hans Holbein was a very productive artist: during his residence in Basel, a well-known center for studies and dissemination of the ideas of the Protestant Reformation, he created cycles of images dedicated to the Dance of Death.
The subtly satirical images of dancing skeletons with women and men took up the late medieval allegory of the dance of death, a memento mori addressed to all members of society starting with the pope and then following the emperor, the king, the queen, common people such as the drunkard and the usurer, up to the last element of the social ladder, the child.
Unlike previous representations, where the dance took place in a single place and in a single scene, Holbein divided the danse macabre into individual images that he subsequently arranged as initials, according to the social hierarchy of the time, in the Alphabet of Death.
We too, influenced by the history of these images, decided to create our own reinterpretation using the identical volumes of the encyclopedia that we had kept for many years.
Just as Luca Ragagnin, in an invented modernity, followed Holbein’s scheme by matching each letter of the alphabet with the corresponding social figure. A sort of exchange of letters was born, which saw Luca regularly sending his surreal compositions inspired by our initials, while we responded to his submissions by constantly adjusting the full and empty spaces with great mutual amusement”. (fannidada)

The monograph constitutes the first study dedicated entirely to the sculptural production of the artist Luigi Stoisa.
The volume, entirely edited by the artist as a sort of catalog raisonné, collects the main sculptural projects of his entire production, created using different mediums, from terracotta to unfired clay and then bronze, stone and steel. The artist reports in the monograph not only the final work but also many drawings and projects, defined by himself as “the closest realization to the mind, the first manual action that leaves a mark, that testifies to a thought, therefore the first art” .
The works are accompanied by numerous critical texts and “Letters” written by the artist and addressed to friends, his collectors but above all to the humanity that observes him. As written by the critic Roberto Mastroianni, author of one of the texts in inside the volume, “This is a space where matter meets spirit”.

Poesie di Grazia Valente, opere di Chen Li

“Il sogno” is a real artist’s book created by the artist Chen Li with poems by Grazia Valente.
“Il sogno” belongs to our reality, both in relation to psychic activity, which occurs during sleep, and in the more prosaic one of aspiration, desire often relegated to the sphere of the impossible. “Il sogno” can also be considered as a protected area, an interior space to be guarded and preserved, a place to wait for an event that often appears nebulous and difficult to decipher, but which we do not want to give up.
In these compositions, drawn from various collections published since 2012, the theme of the dream has been declined in various ways, depending on the mood at the time of inspiration. And often with an ironic streak, characteristic of my way of understanding – and doing – poetry.

The monograph presents the work of the artist Octavio Floreal – a native of the Canary Islands – in a path of almost thirty years of activity, from its beginnings in the early nineties to the most current research.
“Art is a communicative rite that shows us a reflection on the final object, the creative act, and the feelings that move it: thus charging the void with meaning, expanding the viewer’s thought and the work.” (Octavio Floreal)
“There are those who argue that personality, the salient traits of character are hidden in the name. Following this theory, but dwelling on the name, we could actually say that Octavio Floreal immediately expresses a certain panache, a cheerful spirit. And the artist it actually moves lightly, in space and on paper, having fun with art.” (Federica La Paglia)

Sotto la superficie

The volume investigates the space under the surface of the water, of the sea but not only, through photographs, writing, painting and videos, in particular that peculiar vision that, from below upwards, allows you to see the sunlight filtered precisely by the water, with its nuances and variations. The artist leads us through the narration of a path that from being thrown down into the deep darkness of the abyss allows us to go back towards purification and light, through knowledge and relationship but also through the relationship with such an irreplaceable and precious for our life which is water.
Subsurface tells, with the language of images, with sequences but also jumps, passing from wider shots to details, a story of water in which this element is the means for the regeneration of the body and mind through the descent towards the deep center of itself, passing from the surface to the absence of light of the abyss. It is a passage of colors but also of moods, represented as a journey against the laws of physics.
A figure of a woman has thrown herself into the water, struggles to free herself but at the same time goes down into the darkness until she disappears; reappears – and the writing accompanies the image making it more explicit – to retrace the reverse path until it meets the other. In the relationship with the other it is the key to the ascent, which takes place with the guidance of the sunlight filtered by the water, the source of life.

SOLD OUT - Not Available

Stefano Stranges’ photo book documents the toughest phase of the coronavirus health emergency during national confinement and quarantine, in a participatory vision on the pandemic.
Taking a cue from the reportage filmed in Turin during the lockdown days, Stranges returns food for thought on the multiple reactions to this epochal event. Faced with the unexpected and imponderable dimension into which covid-19 has catapulted society, the photographer started from an introspective analysis, in search of awareness and comfort. In observing the reactions of other individuals, he found comparison, answers, hope and the desire to re-emerge. In the chaos, a variegated scenario makes room that reveals the most intimate aspects of people, but also the need to feel part of a community.
This is how Stranges himself describes the reasons for the project: “The job of the reporter tends to take me far away to tell stories and show fragments of life. This time the story was close to home. A story of new communication barriers, of places that are transformed and spaces that are converted, of absences and new presences: a history of resistance. A long photographic project, divided into chapters, a tribute to the human being who was the protagonist of an epochal event that led to the stopping of time and the rhythms of everyday life as we knew it.
After the first days of lockdown, spent observing my intimate space and reflecting on what was happening within the 200 meters allowed by the law, I felt the need to leave the transparent walls to go and document the life that proceeded outside it. space, but this time the story was under the house. A story of new communication barriers, of places that are transformed and spaces that are converted, of absences and new presences, a history of resistance.
The interrupted human relationship, but also the one that is reborn in a gesture of solidarity, despite that obligatory distance that does not allow a handshake by those who are grateful, or a last farewell to their loved one who has fallen in this struggle. Because that limbo where time and space are lost and you can breathe the crossroads between light and dark, was a trench. And the masked sentries present in this first line were also substitutes for their affections, the only living presences allowed, apart from that invisible being. “
