Marco Tagliafico emerges as an alchemist of images – an artist who weaves photography, painting, and drawing into a journey suspended between abstraction and figuration. His work arises from the horizon, not merely as a line that divides the sky from the earth, but as an elusive dream, a symbol
of meaning that slips away, expressing the ungraspable nature of human experience and the incompleteness of perception.
In his poetic exploration of fragments and overlay, Tagliafico reveals a remarkable ability to play with materials, layering and superimposing them to craft visual narratives. (Emanuela Romano)

The works by Alejandro Bombín are a tribute to painting, its material consistency and pure colour, which regains the image and its romantic
significance.
Bombín’s painting research is a reflection on the archaeology of images that are part of a personal and at the same time shared imaginary. He works on documents with alterations that manifest the passage of time and investigates abandoned images (photos from albums, postcards, obsolete scientific books) creating a kind of a bridge between digital and mental errors, giving the viewer the chance to lose himself in deformations and colours.
With Romance, Bombín creates a dialogue between fiction and affective relationship, taking inspiration from Pop art and new figuration. The symbolic dimension of the ‘romance’ refers both to the ideological inertia of traditions and to the power of the reproductive technology of the contemporary images. These works seem to take up the idea of rhyme, rupture and alliteration from literary texts to give them a concrete visualisation.
The artworks contain glitches, the generation of errors in digital reproduction. The glitch, usually defined as a discrepancy between prediction and result, allows us to observe the breaking of the code as the cipher language of a communication channel. This type of error, in this case, presents itself as an interruption in the automatic reproduction of predetermined patterns and models.

A fundamental trait in Marco Tagliafico’s poetics is the continual search for a horizon, an impossible gaze towards something that continually recedes and by its nature it is elusive.
“The search for the horizon corresponds to the search for meaning, the reason why we are in the world and our incessant unsuccessful and approximate attempt to represent it”. This is how the artist defines the theme of his most recent works, in which there is a continuous alternation between the disappearing image and the imperfect attempt to recover the image itself.
Tagliafico’s research is a mix of photography and painting.
By combining these two techniques, the processed images allow the artist to highlight the moment at which the alteration process must end. The viewer of his works is caught up in the eternal search for balance between what can be seen and what lies beyond a hypothetical horizon.

Snowy mountains, impervious cliffs, stormy seas, immense glaciers are the subjects dear to Sven Drühl’s heart, with these subjects he takes us back to familiar places. Nature is the protagonist both in the imposing canvases, where feelings typical of romanticism resurface, and also in the more intimate canvases. The viewer perceives being in front of the purest and most unspoiled nature, but his works are never a reproduction of reality. Sven Drühl draws inspiration from natural landscapes that are already widely known as European and Japanese ‘art history’ thanks to the works of famous artists. Landscapes capable of triggering strong and nostalgic feelings.

Cinque donne per i diritti e l’emancipazione

The book illustrates the attempt to give shape in an iconic, poetic and allusive way to the biographical, existential, political and cultural dimension of five illustrious women: Adelaide Aglietta, Isa Bluette, Amalia Guglielminetti, Giorgina Levi, Emilia Mariani. Five exemplary female figures of the twentieth century, who fought for rights and emancipation. Using the languages of art and contemporaneity, Silvia Margaria carries out an exercise in public history, aimed at learning about the existential, political and human biography of five exemplary Turin figures for the struggle for women’s emancipation and the conquest of human rights. The 34 photos that make up the project are the result of a selection from the hundreds that Silvia Margaria shoots in 2015, after having chosen to investigate the female question from a very particular point of view: she analyzes the life of the flowers placed on the graves of the five buried women at the Monumental Cemetery of Turin. The urgency of the artist, in which personal emotions and the almost daily documentary action intersect, is to return the research on the struggle for emancipation through an artistic path that crosses the need to remember and the inevitable realization. of oblivion with the passage of time.

In a time where coordinates are easily lost in the virtual dimension,
the Spanish artist Raquel Bistuer (Barcelona, 1991) tries to find correspondences between the space around her and the cosmos through her work. She reflects on what identifies us as individuals with decision- making capacities and self-determination, and what makes us part of an interconnected whole. The artist searches for points of reference in the universe, she stratifies the elements that reveal the sign of time, the signals of our passage that she observes with a kind of scientific approach. She investigates each sign, meticulously and carefully, she breaks it down and first she read it in isolation and then relating it to its surroundings.

The work of Julia Carrillo (Mexico, 1987) develops around the balance between art and science, in an attempt to analyze reality. Her degree in mathematics led her to combine scientific methodologies with artistic practices to represent natural phenomena, such as the movement of light and the shapes of water. Among the works proposed in this monograph we find “Coreografías”: a series of 24 rayographies that make up a dance where light, striking translucent geometric objects, unfolds and bounces. The variation of the projection angle of the light simulates the different incidences of the sun on the earth during the day. The change of angle of the light generates new visions, so simple geometric structures positioned on the photo-sensitive paper come to life giving life to a sort of “choreography”. In “Superficies minimas”, using the analogue photographic lens, Carrillo shows the results of spatial studies based on structures generated by soap bubbles. It starts from the mathematical concept that deals with the “stable form”, in this case membranes that are able to contain the greatest volume within a film with the smallest possible surface. The sphere is the simplest minimum surface and can be observed in a soap bubble. The artist shows us, with splendid black and white images, that when a conglomeration of bubbles is created, they lose their sphericity and their geometry changes, always keeping the largest volume inside and ensuring that the soap film (or the surface) covers the minimum area. In the “Score” polyptych we find water which, like a lens, continuously modifies the reflection of light and traces an imaginary coastline through the union of the eight frames that compose it. With the medium of painting, the artist investigates concepts such as the border and the infinite. On display some works on paper test the possible geometric configurations based on two elements: line and color. In these works we find the contamination between various geometries, as in optical devices, generating three-dimensional illusions.

Linee di connessione tra luce e suono

CARLO BERNARDINI | GIULIO DE MITRI | JAVIER MARTIN | PAOLO SCIRPA

The volume presents a reflection on the many expressive potentials and on the connection between light and sound.
“The immateriality of light and sound – says the curator Sara Liuzzi – takes on a determining value through the metaphor of the line, not only in the utopia of abstraction, but also in the real concreteness of its being: line as an expression of research, of narration, of three-dimensional processing. Sound follows its trajectory and, together with light, defines its limits, redesigns its profiles that take shape in space. From the essential element of the line emerges a solid interaction, a close communion with music: a score in which each artist, tracing heterogeneous paths, contributes to the synaesthetic creation, where a single unit takes shape, where light and sound contaminate each other in a synchronic. The installations on display appropriate the space, in a fluid and engaging way, giving the user a global sensory perception. ” With the disruptive power of light in the works of Carlo Bernardini, Giulio De Mitri, Javier Martin and Paolo Scirpa, lighting manifests itself in its broadest meaning; it is the revelation of what is not always visible to the eye, it is linked to the architectural characteristics of the space and constitutes the basic element on which to develop a musical score that develops in parallel. The works immortalize an idea of light, of which we can observe the flow, between sculpture, neon and photography, in an environment that is articulated around the visitor, altering their perception.
